Borneo Tropics Bounty (BTB) is a work in progress but then again, when it comes to farming and gardening, the work is always in progress I suppose. I run a farm on a 3 acres property about 11 kilometre away from the town of Beaufort in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo or about 15 minutes drive from the town centre. The district of Beaufort is located in the interior of Sabah.
The 'farm' is about 29 kilometre away (or about 25 minutes drive) from Kuala Penyu (in English, it means Bay of Turtles), a sleepy yet picturesque town which boasts sandy white beaches seldom explored by tourists. Not due to lack of natural wonder but lack of exposure and promotion. Kuala Penyu is the land of the Tatanas, a Dusunic ethnic race. All Tatanas throughout Malaysia trace their roots to Kuala Penyu. Kuala Penyu is also the gateway to Pulau Tiga, a National Park.
The farm is also a few minutes drive away from Garama Wetland and Klias Wetland, popular destinations for tourists to see Proboscis monkeys, fireflies and other wildlife besides the picturesque landscape.
Beaufort district is a perfect place if you are looking for a destination in Sabah that is less traveled.
At BTB, we try to minimise usage of chemical input in our agricultural or gardening activities unless really necessary. The fertilizers used on our plants are 100% natural e.g. Chicken dropping. We also emphasize on health safety in our workers handling all materials in our day to day operation. A near holistic approach to farming and gardening.
I am presently providing free accommodation only. Food, transport and other special requests will have to be borne by guests. Work is light. No guests have complained about me so far :). If you are interested, please contact me at jsunamwong@gmail.com
